The Jews had faith,trust and illusion cause them to be victimized by the Germans is to

faith in God was absolute. In the novel Elie ask himself “Why did I live? Why do I pray ? Why did I breathe ?” . His belief is an omnipotent,benevolent God is unconditional and He can’t
imagine living without faith in a divine power. But Elie faith is shaken by his experience during
the holocaust.
